Frequently Asked Questions

Bridge policy
Itīs the Masterīs decision when passengers are allowed to visit the bridge. Please keep in mind that it is a .privilege. to join the officers during their working time.

Cabins
All cabins are outside cabins with private facilities. Cabins should be prepared with your boarding but sometimes . because of the .flying splice. - the stewart may require some more time. Thank you for your understanding!

Departure date
In freighter travel it is not possible to confirm an exact date with the booking . only a time-frame such as .first half of August. or .mid April. Until your departure we will keep you informed with updates and changes. An exact departure date will be known a few days before embarkation

Deviation insurance

The deviation insurance is an insurance taken out by a shipping line to protect them in case the ship must deviate from its intended itinerary for any passenger related circumstance.

Doctor / medical certificate
There is no doctor on board! Every passenger has to present a clean medical certificate filled out by a doctor. The age limit is 75 (exceptions can be made with very good medical certificates). Should you have any chronic disease, please do not forget to bring along a sufficient quantity of personal medication.

Documents
Your passport must be valid at least 6 month . for some countries up to 12 month. Several countries . e.g. the USA, China and Australia . demand a Visa. Please check with your respective embassies or consulates of all countries called during your voyage and obtain the required documents prior to departure.
Itīs very important to mention that you are going on a freighter trip!

Dress code
The dress code is casual.

Elevators
Most vessels do not have elevators and also if they do, the elevators are not always available. Passengers have to be well prepared to negotiate many stairs because sometimes the public facilities and the cabins are spread over several decks.

Insurances
Passengers are required to conclude their own emergency medical/evacuation insurance.

Internet/e-mail etc.
The vessels are equipped with a satellite communication system. At sea and in port, telephone calls, fax messages, cables, telexes or e-mails can be arranged upon request. A general internet access cannot be granted. Please be aware, that marine satellite communication charges are significantly higher than those for shore based communication.

Language
The main language on board is english. Passengers must be able to communicate in English!

Laundry
Passengers may use the self service laundry (washer and dryer).

Luggage
The carrier agrees to transport cabin-size luggage of up to approx. 1/2 cbm per passenger free of charge. Weapons and other dangerous materials, narcotics and drugs, pornographic images and objects the import and export of which into or from any port of call or the country of destination are prohibited under the law shall not be allowed on board.

Master
While aboard, all passengers shall be subject to the authority and rules of the captain (and the officers) of the vessel.

Meals
Three meals a day will be served in the officers messroom. Please note that special food (e.g. for diets, diabetes) cannot be offered

Pets

Pets are not allowed.

Port time
In port and during the coastal rotation the entire crew is always busy as cargo operations are usually carried out day and night. Therefore, the Master and his Crew would appreciate your consideration, as they will find less time to look after you in the way you might have expected.

Security
Since the vessels are certified according to the ISPS (International Ship and Port-Facility Security) Code, also Passengers are requested to follow the international security rules. A complete briefing about the current security status on board will be given by the Ship Security Officer (SSO) as part of the on-board familiarization

Schedule/ports
Please note that the schedule/port rotaion is subject to change . also on short term and without prior notice.

Shore excursions
Sight-seeing tours, port / town visit, transportation etc., have to be planned and paid locally by yourself.

Smoking
The Master determines the smoking policy on his vessel. Normally smoking is only forbidden in special areas.

Spare time
As you have decided to travel on a cargo vessel you should not expect any range of entertainment and amenities as on a cruise liner. Enjoy yourself!.

Vaccinations
For most voyages a yellow fever vaccination is compulsory. Please contact your doctor or the local health authority to receive more informations.

Vehicles
Itīs not possible to book any vehicles.

Voltage
Voltage used on board is AC 220 Volts (50 . 60 Hz).
